The Italian Consulate General in Miami, in collaboration with the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce Southeast and with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) has recently published a joint report on the Italian presence in the South-East of the United States, with particular attention on the economic and commercial aspects. The jurisdiction of the Italian Consulate in Miami includes Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, as well as some Caribbean islands: Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Cayman. The first important data is the considerable increase of Italian citizens residing in the areas of jurisdiction of the Consulate. In just four years the numbers have gone from 28,000 to 41,000, of which 35,000 are only in Florida. In addition, 260,000 Italians traveled to Florida for work or vacation in 2017, generating an impact of $755 million for the local economy.
