LITERATURE, ALESSANDRO BARBERO AT THE OXFORD LITERARY FESTIVAL

London - The Italian Embassy in London announces that Professor Alessandro Barbero, formerly a professor of Medieval History at the University of Eastern Piedmont, as well as a well-known figure in Italian television and radio, among the most renowned historians, popularizers, and writers in our country, will represent Italy at the prestigious Oxford Literary Festival, scheduled in the English university city until March 24, 2024. Professor Barbero's event will take place on March 21, at 2:00 pm, at Exeter College, University of Oxford. Professor Barbero will discuss his latest book, "To Arms! To Arms! The Priors Make Flesh." In his work, the Professor delves into the perhaps lesser-known theme of popular revolts in the Middle Ages, including the uprising of the English in 1381. The book vividly recounts the various revolts that swept across Europe during the Middle Ages, including the French peasant revolt of 1358 (known as the Jacquerie), the Ciompi revolt in Florence in 1378, the English peasant revolt of 1381, and the lesser-known Tuchini revolt in Piedmont between 1386 and 1391. In his interpretation of events, Professor Barbero attributes to these revolts and their protagonists objectives and demands that traditional history tends not to recognize. The Professor will be introduced by the Italian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Inigo Lambertini. (9colonne)
