Beirut - The "Italian Screens" showcase, organized by Cinecittà and initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture, is making its debut in Beirut. To mark the occasion, the Italian Cultural Institute of Beirut will present four of the five finalists for the Best Film award at the 2024 David di Donatello Awards. "Italian Screens" is part of the broader "Fare Cinema" project, a thematic showcase dedicated to promoting Italian cinema and the film industry, organized by the MAECI in collaboration with MiC, Anica, Ice, Istituto Luce – Cinecittà, the Italian Film Commission, and the Italian Cinema Academy – David di Donatello Awards. Launched in 2018, "Fare Cinema" is now in its seventh edition and will be held in Lebanon from July 5 to 13, with the dual aim of highlighting Italian cinema and the professionals in the sector. In addition to the "Italian Screens" films, a selection of six recent productions, five short films, and a small retrospective of Marcello Mastroianni will be presented. The films scheduled at Beirut Souks Cinemacity are: "C’è ancora domani" by Paola Cortellesi on July 5 at 8:30 PM; "La chimera" by Alice Rohrwacher on July 13 at 8:30 PM; "Io capitano" by Matteo Garrone on July 6 at 8:30 PM; and "Il sol dell’avvenire" by Nanni Moretti on July 13 at 6:30 PM. The recent productions scheduled include: "Comandante" by Edoardo De Angelis on July 11 at 8:30 PM; "Ultima notte d’amore" by Andrea Di Stefano on July 6 at 6:30 PM; "Palazzina LAF" by Michele Riondino on July 7 at 8:30 PM; "Non riattaccare" by Manfredi Lucibello on July 7 at 6:30 PM; "Romantiche" by Pilar Fogliati on July 8 at 8:30 PM; and "Misericordia" by Emma Dante on July 12 at 6:30 PM. A day of short films is planned for July 10: "Asterion" by Francesco Montagner; "Foto di gruppo" by Tommaso Frangini; "In quanto a noi" by Simone Massi; "The meatseller" by Margherita Giusti; and "We should all be futurists" by Angela Norelli. From July 8 to 12, a retrospective dedicated to Mastroianni will feature masterpieces such as "8 ½" by Federico Fellini and "Marriage Italian Style" by Vittorio De Sica. The screenings will also take place at the Cinemacity complex in Beirut Central District (Beirut Downtown), in Tyre ("Romantiche", Rivoli Cinema), Tripoli ("C’è ancora domani", Empire Cinema), and Zahle ("La chimera", Chamber of Commerce of Zahle).
