Lombardy's tourism shines in the international press

New York - Lombardy continues to stand out on the global tourism scene, earning significant coverage in major international media outlets. From giants like The New York Times and CNN to prestigious European newspapers such as The Times and Le Figaro, the region is celebrated as one of the most fascinating and attraction-rich tourist destinations, with particular attention given to its stunning lakes. "This summer, the 'Dolce Vita' for foreign tourists is in Lombardy," says Barbara Mazzali, the regional councilor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing, and Fashion. "Our lakes, such as Lake Como, Garda, Maggiore, and Iseo," she continues, "have become the focal point of international media attention, with mentions that honor us in globally significant publications. The Times even dedicated an article comparing the unique features of Lake Como and Lake Garda, highlighting the distinctive beauty of both: attention that represents a wonderful showcase for us." "Not only the great lakes," she adds, "but also lesser-known areas are being featured in foreign media. The New York Times introduced Americans to the mountains and small villages of the Lecchese area, mentioning places like Canzo, Brunate, and Colico, while CNN highlighted the charm of Lake Iseo, describing Montisola as 'a paradise for nature lovers.' Even the Spanish press, such as El Confidencial, emphasized the culinary specialties of Lake Iseo, a sign of how much our local culture is appreciated abroad." With a positive outcome in the first six months of 2024, which saw 8 million overnight stays in Lombardy, up 11.5% compared to the same period last year, Mazzali is optimistic: "The visibility that the foreign press is giving to Lombardy confirms that our strategic choices are effective. But this success is also the result of the tireless work of tourism operators and local institutions, who together promote a territory rich in breathtaking landscapes, a nature that offers the opportunity to meet every ‘outdoor’ need, much culture, and a gastronomy that reigns supreme on Lombard tables."
