Nov. 13 – Shalpy’s objective is to "export our good pop-dance music in the world." The singer of the catchy ‘80s songs Rocking Rolling (1983), Cigarettes And Coffee (1984), No East No West (1986), I would pray (1988), is ready for an international tour to promote his new single "Icon-man." The latter is, in fact, Shalpi’s first international production. Born in 1962, real name Giovanni Scialpi, his single will be available on iTunes from Monday, November 19.
"Icon-man" is a pop-dance song with hints of irony and enthralling moments, that mark a change in the artist’s style. Currently promoting the single in the US, Shalpy will soon go to Canada, before returning to Europe - more specifically Germany and Sweden, to then come back to Italy by the end of January. "Icon-man - says Shalpy - is a single that confirms my intention to export good pop-dance music in the world, where everyone communicates in the same language and where an artist can finally finds his context. Soon, a disco-mix album will come out, announced by Icon-Man and its soon-to-be-released video.”
SHALPY’S ‘80s SUCCESS
Shalpy made his debut in 1983 with the song Rocking Rolling, winning the "Discoverde" at the 1983 Festivalbar. The album Ex-tensions, which contained three songs written by Mango, soon followed. Scialpi is one of the first Italian singers to produce a musical video: under the aegis of his discoverer, Franco Migliacci, and the director Piccio Raffanini, experimental videos accompanied his songs “Rockin Rolling“ and “L’io e l’es.” In 1986 Shalpy participated in the Sanremo Festival with No East No West, to which an album entitled “Scialpi” followed.
In 1987, again at the Festivalbar, Shalpy presented “Bella Età.” In
1988 he won the Festivalbar, with Scarlett Von Wollenmann, for the song “I would pray” from the album “Un morso e via.” Space 1995 was released in 1995, with old songs remixe and the single “What do you love.” In 1996, together with Chiara Noschese and Giampiero Ingrassia, Shalpy participates in the musical Forbidden Planet, directed by Patrick Rossi Castaldi. In 2008, he starts in the musical Rudolph Valentino. In 2011, Shalpy embarks in a multimedia project entitled Free and Romantic, composed of twelve songs that will be made available for download on a monthly basis.
