Taleggio PDO exports surge 11.6% in 2024

Paris – The total production of Taleggio PDO in 2024 reached 8,693,815 kg, a figure that reflects a stable output despite ongoing economic and environmental challenges in the dairy sector. The most notable highlight, according to the Taleggio Protection Consortium, is the strong export growth: approximately 2,574 tons were shipped abroad this year, marking an 11.6% increase from 2023.
Exports now account for 29.6% of total production, underscoring the growing global appetite for this traditional Italian cheese. The European market remains dominant, absorbing 67.2% of total exports. France leads the way with 465,977 kg (up 51 tons), followed by Germany at 394,941 kg (up 82 tons) and Belgium at 217,200 kg (up 29 tons).
Exports beyond the EU totaled 845,143 kg (32.8% of total exports), showing a 7.6% increase year-over-year. The United States continues to be the top non-EU market, importing 362,524 kg, followed by the United Kingdom at 159,945 kg.
“We have taken full advantage of public funding opportunities, which have been key to boosting the promotion of Taleggio PDO,” said Consortium President Lorenzo Sangiovanni. “In 2024, we strengthened our presence abroad, expanded visibility, and increased our appeal—especially among younger consumers.”
