Prada and UNESCO join forces for ocean education

Nice – During the 2025 UN Ocean Conference in Nice, the Prada Group and UNESCO unveiled a new global initiative: the Sea Beyond – Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Connecting People and Ocean. Prada will kickstart the fund with a €2 million donation, aiming to reconnect humanity with the ocean in alignment with the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The fund will support global projects that merge education, science, and ocean culture across five key areas: blue education, youth engagement, cultural heritage, science–society dialogue, and strategic communication. “We are proud to empower a new generation to protect the ocean,” said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. Lorenzo Bertelli, Head of CSR at Prada Group, emphasized the fund’s mission to drive global momentum around ocean literacy and sustainability. The five-year program will open to new partners starting in 2026, with the first project call scheduled for December 2025. Meanwhile, UNESCO’s Global Network of Blue Schools already involves over 2,400 institutions in 17 countries. Brazil will be the first nation to include ocean education in its national school curriculum.
