Brussels – The University of Turin (UniTo) has achieved an exceptional milestone in international research: three of its faculty members have been awarded the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant 2024. The grant, issued by the European Research Council as part of the Horizon Europe program, provides €2.5 million in funding per project over five years.
The recognition highlights UniTo’s growing role as a hub of world-class research and reflects the success of BRAIN UniTo, a program launched in 2022 to foster research excellence and attract top global talent. Coordinated by the Research and Innovation Promotion Area in collaboration with the university’s network of research managers, BRAIN UniTo aims to boost the institution’s ability to generate high-impact knowledge.
The 2024 grant recipients are: Tiziana Caponio, associate professor of Political Science, for Mind-the-NEXUS, a project examining the relationship between asylum policies and far-right movements in rural Europe; Roberto Chiarle, full professor of Pathological Anatomy in the Faculty of Medicine, for A-PONTE, focused on new oncological immunotherapies targeting ALK-driven cancers; Pasquale Porro, professor of Medieval Philosophy, for SPECIES, exploring the origins of species in medieval thought between fixism and early evolutionary ideas.
