Mozzarella di Bufala hits U.S. market amid tariff uncertainty

Over 10,000 kilometers in just two weeks, crossing the globe to promote one of Italy’s most iconic cheeses. After participating in the European Commission's trade mission in Japan, the Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO has landed in New York for the Summer Fancy Food Show, the largest specialty food fair in North America. The event takes place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from June 29 to July 1. The Consortium will be present at stand no. 2523 within the official Italian Pavilion, represented by President Domenico Raimondo and director Pier Maria Saccani. With U.S. tariffs still frozen until July 9, the group remains focused on the American market, which accounts for roughly 7–10% of its total exports—nearly €20 million in value. “Beyond the current figures, new tariffs would limit future growth, especially in the HORECA sector, where Mozzarella di Bufala is considered a premium product and enjoys strong demand in high-end restaurants,” said Raimondo. The promotional efforts will include live cheesemaking demos and tastings by master cheesemaker Mimmo La Vecchia at the GrowNYC Farmers Market in Union Square, in partnership with Coldiretti.
