Italian innovation and research take center stage in Georgia

Tbilisi – On Monday, the Italian Innovation and Research Day took place in Tbilisi, an event organized by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA). Aimed at further strengthening the already vibrant technological partnership between the two countries, the event was officially opened by the Italian Ambassador to Georgia, Massimiliano D’Antuono, and the President of GITA, Avtandil Kasradze.
Professor Luigi Nicolais, President of the Cotec Foundation for Innovation, joined the event remotely. Held at GITA’s headquarters, the gathering also included the awards ceremony for the winners of the “STEM Study Visit to Italy” program—an initiative offering Georgian innovators the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in key sectors such as innovation, IT, and the creative industries. Each year, two winners receive a three-month scholarship to work at leading Italian tech hubs or companies.
“The initiative was born out of a 2018 agreement between Cotec and GITA, with the goal of strengthening the research and technical know-how of Georgian innovators and expanding our bilateral cooperation in the tech field,” said Ambassador D’Antuono. He congratulated this year’s winners, whose projects focus on remote services and digital experiences. They will carry out their internships at Innovaway, a cutting-edge Italian company specializing in digital transformation and ICT services.
