From Cologne, a call for a united pro-European front

Cologne – In recent days, Italia Viva Europe hosted the event “(Let’s) Do Something!” in Cologne, bringing together members and coordinators from across the continent to renew their commitment to a reformist and pro-European vision.
The meeting’s title echoed the famous “Do something!” appeal launched by Mario Draghi and taken up by Francesco Luongo, coordinator of Italia Viva Germany, who called for the creation of a “reformist tent” to unite pro-European forces ahead of upcoming political challenges.
Institutional speakers offered sharp and thought-provoking insights. Senator Enrico Borghi drew a parallel between today’s geopolitical tensions and the events that led to World War I, stressing the need to defend liberal European values and to modernize democracy so it can better engage younger generations and address the impact of artificial intelligence.
MP Benedetto Della Vedova underscored the urgent need for a federal structure within the EU, warning against the dangers of an unfinished Europe that fuels populism. He called for the formation of a broad reformist coalition to prevent Italy from falling into nationalist hands.
MEP Sandro Gozi reinforced the pro-European message, emphasizing that the next elections will not be a clash between right and left, but rather a choice between those who believe in the European project and those who seek to dismantle it.
