Washington – Strengthening bilateral ties between Italy and the United States, cooperation in the mining sector, joint projects across the entire critical raw materials value chain, and mutual investments were the focus of a meeting at Palazzo Piacentini between Italy’s Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, attended by U.S. Ambassador to Italy Tilman J. Fertitta.
“Italy and the United States share a historic bond built on common values and long-standing relations,” Minister Urso stated. “We want to strengthen our autonomy through the diversification of supply sources, aiming for a key role in the dual green and digital transition. This goal can be achieved by enhancing our partnership with the U.S., a global leader in the production of critical raw materials.”
The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration with the United States, underscoring how Washington could become a strategic partner in developing the mining value chain. In this context, opportunities are opening up for cooperation with U.S. companies active in extraction, refining, and recycling of critical raw materials.
Urso also recalled that Italy has already passed a law in this field to assess national demand and needs while revitalizing the domestic mining sector: Italy, in fact, possesses around half of the 34 raw materials classified as critical by the European Union.
