From Monday to Friday, BigItalyFocus provides an information overview, ranged from development aid to made in Italy
Vienna – Fashion is often perceived through its most contemporary expressions, yet it remains a deeply social, cultural, and economic phenomenon. These dimensions will be explored during the conference “Made in Italy: A Story of Italian Fashion Between Art and Craftsmanship”, to be held on November 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna.
The speaker, Maria Giuseppina Muzzarelli — a historian who has taught Medieval History, Urban History, and the Cultural Heritage of Fashion at the University of Bologna — is among the first academics to approach fashion as a rigorous field of research.
Her lecture will trace the historical roots of what we now call Made in Italy, starting from Italian unification and exploring figures such as Rosa Genoni, the pioneer of Italian “art fashion”, as well as the complex relationship between fashion and Fascism, and the evolution from the post-war period to today.
Following the talk, Muzzarelli will engage in conversation with fashion historian Laura Dimitrio to delve deeper into some of the most compelling themes of the discussion.
