Italy’s Women’s Basketball team gears up for prestigious tournament in Spain

La Línea – The Italian women’s basketball team, led by Coach Andrea Capobianco, will train in Rome at the Olympic Training Center in Acqua Acetosa until Wednesday, November 12, before departing for La Línea, Spain, just a few kilometers from the Strait of Gibraltar. There, the Azzurre will compete in a top-level international tournament.
The first game is scheduled for November 14 at 6:45 p.m. against the host nation, Spain, the reigning European vice-champions. The following day, Italy will face France at 7:30 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on Sky Sport.
Capobianco has announced a roster of 18 players, including all 12 athletes who took part in the recent Women’s EuroBasket, along with several others who have previously worn the national jersey. Adele Cancelli, center for Geas Sesto San Giovanni, earns her first call-up to the senior national team.
“As we move forward, I plan to expand the group by integrating the most promising young players,” said Capobianco. “But for this tournament, and especially ahead of the pre-World Cup in March, time is very limited, and we must choose the players who are currently the most ready”.
“At La Línea, we’ll be facing the best of European women’s basketball,” he added. “My philosophy has always been to embrace high-level challenges. If we want to compete at the top, we must constantly measure ourselves against teams like France and Spain.”
From March 11 to 17, Italy will face Puerto Rico, the United States, Spain, New Zealand, and Senegal at the Pre-World Cup Tournament in San Juan, a key step toward qualifying for the FIBA Women’s World Cup 2026 in Berlin. To qualify, Italy must finish among the top three in its group — or fourth, if Team USA ranks within the top three.
