Basilicata showcases protected areas and culture at the Swiss International Holiday Exhibition in Lugano

Lugano – Basilicata presented itself as a model of sustainable tourism at the Swiss International Holiday Exhibition (SIHE) in Lugano. Under the regional brand identity program Ambiente Basilicata, the Region promoted its heritage of landscapes, protected areas, and culture during one of Europe’s major tourism events, turning environmental protection into a factor of competitive growth.
“Bringing Basilicata to Lugano,” said the Regional Councillor for the Environment and Energy Transition, Laura Mongiello, “means clearly affirming that environmental sustainability is already a key driver of development for our territory. We shared the story of a Basilicata that preserves, regenerates, and shares its natural and cultural heritage. From protected areas to the network of historic fountains, from walking trails to water landscapes, we are promoting a slow, respectful, and inclusive way to experience the region — one that is also competitive internationally by focusing on quality and authenticity. Environment, energy, and land protection represent the three pillars of our unified strategic vision”.
The regional stand, presenting Basilicata as a “green and blue region” to be discovered through slow itineraries, was among the most visited at the fair. Visitors, showing great curiosity, were able to “travel virtually” through Basilicata thanks to multimedia headsets, enjoying an immersive experience that emotionally engaged the public.
