Santa Marta – Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, represented Italy at the fourth CELAC–EU Summit held in Santa Marta, Colombia.
The event underscored Italy’s and the European Union’s growing commitment to strengthening the Euro–Latin American partnership, which includes more than one-third of the UN member states.
The agenda focused on reinforcing a rules-based international order, advancing the triple transition — climate, energy, and environment — as well as boosting trade and investment, and tackling organized crime.
“The recent progress in the EU’s agreements with Latin American partners highlights the potential for a stronger economic bond,” Tripodi noted in her address. “In uncertain times, we must strengthen our interconnections, diversify our markets, and work with even greater determination to meet common challenges.”
She concluded, “Our goal is clear: to build together a partnership based on trust, reciprocity, and shared prosperity.”
At the summit’s closing session, participants are set to adopt a joint political declaration and two additional statements on citizen security and social protection.
