Klagenfurt – Cross-border cooperation between the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Austrian state of Carinthia and the Veneto Region has taken a further step forward with the signing of a new agreement aimed at promoting sustainable mobility through public transport and integrated cycling networks.
The announcement was made by Friuli Venezia Giulia’s Regional Finance Councillor Barbara Zilli, who signed the strategic protocol yesterday in Klagenfurt together with Carinthian Governor Peter Kaiser during the annual assembly of the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) Euregio Without Borders Friuli Venezia Giulia–Veneto–Carinthia.
“This is a strategic agreement, essential for mobility in this border area, particularly between Carinthia and Friuli Venezia Giulia,” Zilli explained. “Its objective is to further strengthen existing cooperation and expand it to other fields, starting from culture.”
The agreement regulates the activation of cross-border local public transport services, both scheduled and on-demand, within existing service contracts between local governments and transport operators. The system to be developed will enhance economic and tourism growth, improve access to public transport and promote environmental sustainability, notably by strengthening links with cycling routes and by consolidating an integrated cross-border mobility model.
