From Monday to Friday, BigItalyFocus provides an information overview, ranged from development aid to made in Italy
From Asti to Singapore and on to New York, London, Seoul, Athens and Krakow, the holiday season is shaping up to be sparkling for Italy’s iconic Asti wines. More than 25 million bottles of Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti are expected to be uncorked between Christmas and New Year, with roughly 22.5 million headed abroad, confirming the strong export vocation of the DOCG’s production.
“For nearly a century, our white Moscato grapes have accompanied Christmas and New Year celebrations in more than 100 countries,” said Stefano Ricagno, president of the Asti DOCG Consortium. He noted that the denomination continues to evolve, positioning Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti - both naturally low in alcohol, ranging from 5% to 12% - as ideal both for mixology and as versatile wines that pair well throughout a meal, especially with Asian cuisine.
According to the Consortium, the two styles will close the year with around 85 million bottle equivalents. While this represents a slight decline of 4% compared to 2024, the final quarter saw a notable recovery of 6%, driven in particular by Moscato d’Asti, which is expected to finish 2025 in line with last year’s performance.
