Shanghai – More than 10,000 spectators attended the eighth sold-out tour in China by the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano, conducted by Margherita Gamberini. The tour featured six concerts—four at the Shanghai Culture Square and two at the Jiangsu Center for the Performing Arts in Nanjing—held between late 2025 and early 2026.
The young singers travelled to China together with their families and the Antoniano staff, forming a group of 42 participants. The concert program placed the spotlight on the beloved songs of the Zecchino d’Oro, ranging from timeless classics such as Il valzer del moscerino, Le tagliatelle di nonna Pina and Volevo un gatto nero, to more recent hits including Per un pezzetto di terra and Ci pensa il vento, winner of the 68th edition of the festival. These musical moments were interwoven with playful scenes and more reflective passages, creating a show that was both entertaining and emotionally engaging.
The program also featured two special duets performed together with the Piccolo Coro Hydrangea, the choir’s sister ensemble in Shanghai. The songs Lo stelliere and Raro come un diamante, both part of the Zecchino d’Oro repertoire, were adapted with lyrics in both Italian and Chinese to allow the two choirs to sing side by side.
The Piccolo Coro’s Chinese adventure began 11 years ago, in 2015. Since then, the ensemble has completed eight tours—each one sold out—for a total of 58 concerts. Over the years, performances have been staged for the choir’s enthusiastic Chinese fan base at venues such as the Children’s Art Theatre of Shanghai and the Shanghai Culture Square, as well as the Tian Qiao Performing Art Center in Beijing in 2016, and, since 2020, the Jiangsu Center for the Performing Arts in Nanjing.
