Pirandello comes to Lisbon: Officine Papage on stage

Lisbon – Officine Papage arrives in Lisbon. From January 22 to 24, the Teatro Taborda hosts A cada um, sua vontade, inspired by Luigi Pirandello’s play Così è (se vi pare). The production, created in collaboration with Teatro da Garagem, premiered last summer at the Festival Nuove Terre and the Festival delle Colline Geotermiche under the title La strana storia della signora Frola e del signor Ponza suo genero.

Directed by Marco Pasquinucci and Carlos J. Pessoas, the cast includes Benedetta Berti, Dario Furini, Tiago Martins Ghilli, Emanuele Niego, Marco Pasquinucci, and Benedetta Tartaglia. In an era dominated by oversimplification, the illusion of knowing everything, information overload, and instant communication that makes every place, time, and event seemingly accessible, Pirandello’s text remains strikingly relevant.

The play explores a world of fake news, fragmented identities, and conflicting narratives, asking the urgent question: how can we sustain what cannot be fully known? A cada um, sua vontade reflects on the human need to tell stories, interpret, distort, and believe - but, as Pirandello teaches, no testimony is entirely reliable, and truth is always a matter of perspective.
