Tyre – The international seminar “Mosaic in Ancient and Modern Art: A Mediterranean Bridge between Tyre and Spilimbergo” recently took place at the main hall of the Lebanese University’s Faculty of Sciences in Tyre. Organized by the Italian contingent of UNIFIL’s Western Sector, based on the “Taurinense” Alpine Brigade, in collaboration with the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli in Spilimbergo, and supported by local academic and governmental authorities, the initiative promoted cultural and scientific exchange on the mosaic as a shared Mediterranean heritage and a tool for community dialogue.

The seminar, which included live video links from Italy, brought together students, university professors, archaeologists, master mosaicists, and institutional representatives from both countries. Brigadier General David Colussi, commander of UNIFIL’s Western Sector, emphasized the Italian contingent’s role in fostering cultural cooperation to enhance mutual understanding, dialogue, and the valorization of shared heritage.

The event also laid the groundwork for future collaborations in training and cultural heritage preservation. The Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli presented its educational and research activities, highlighting professional development and exchange opportunities for young Lebanese participants, reinforcing cultural cooperation and the sharing of traditional expertise.
