Mexico City – The exhibition “Ellos querían una casa, yo les propuse crear un hogar” has opened at the Franz Mayer Museum in Mexico City, curated by Ilaria Palmieri and Georgina Pantazopoulou. Open to the public until 28 February, the exhibition stems from the book of the same name, They Asked Me to Design a House, I Asked Them to Design a Home. Beyond the Architectural House. Reflections and Exercises on Domestic Life, an international English-language publication released by Set Margins’, also edited by Palmieri and Pantazopoulou. The exhibition project translates the themes and reflections of the volume into the museum space through installations, guided tours, conversations and moments of collective discussion, with a critical focus on architecture, design, care and forms of domestic existence. Both the book and the exhibition are rooted in the belief that domestic life is not a static environment, but a living, relational experience in constant transformation. Moving beyond a purely architectural vision of dwelling, the project reintroduces the concept of home as something felt, remembered, imagined and continuously constructed, addressing issues of living, belonging and cohabitation through contributions by architects, interior designers, educators and designers. Divided into two interconnected sections, Reflections and Exercises, the book brings together twenty-one contributions including essays, conversations and interactive exercises. Reflections invites readers on a journey through alternative perceptions of domesticity, while Exercises opens up a space for personal exploration of the concept of home, not merely as an idea but as an experience in the making. The exhibition allows these reflections to be experienced live, transforming the museum into a place of listening, exchange and experimentation. (9colonne)
