Pompeii and Dublin sign a twinning agreement

Dublin – The promotional event “Pompeii and the Campania Region: A Cultural and Tourist Destination for the Irish Public” was held on February 12 at the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin. It was organized by the Embassy of Italy in Ireland, the Italian Institute of Culture, ENIT, the ICE Agency, and the Italian-Irish Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pompeii and the Campania Region. The initiative celebrated the signing of a twinning agreement between Pompeii and Dublin, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations in the fields of tourism and culture through the development of cultural and educational exchanges between schools, the sharing of best practices in tourism, and the promotion of joint initiatives to enhance the cultural heritage of both cities, with the goal of establishing stable and long-lasting cooperation. The event opened with institutional greetings from Ambassador Nicola Faganello and the Director of the Institute, Michela Linda Magrì, followed by remarks from the Mayor of Pompeii, Andreina Esposito, and Dáithí Downey, Head of the European and International Relations Office of the Dublin City Council. A roundtable discussion followed with Professor Lynda Mulvin of the School of Art History and Cultural Policy at University College Dublin, Dr. Mario Muscariello, Advisor for International Relations to the Mayor of Pompeii, and Architect Ferdinando d’Agostino, official of the Tourism Department of the Campania Region. The speakers explored the role of Pompeii and Campania as cultural and tourist destinations of interest to the Irish public, with particular attention to prospects for academic and institutional cooperation.
