The film Chiara, directed by Susanna Nicchiarelli, will be screened on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Casa Italia Chicago.
Set in Assisi in the year 1211, the film tells the story of Saint Clare as an 18-year-old woman who defies her family and societal expectations to follow her spiritual calling. Leaving her father’s home to join her friend Francis, Clare embarks on a path that will change her life forever.
The narrative portrays her resistance to family pressure and even to papal authority, as she fights with determination and charisma for her own freedom and for that of the women who choose to follow her. Chiara presents an intimate and human portrait of a historical figure whose legacy continues to resonate across centuries.
