Renowned Italian historian Alessandro Barbero will travel to South Africa this April for a series of three lectures organized by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Pretoria, in collaboration with the Ambasciata d'Italia a Pretoria, the Consolato Generale d'Italia a Johannesburg, and the Consolato d'Italia a Città del Capo. The first lecture, titled “The Revolution of Saint Francis,” will be held on April 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Italian Club in Johannesburg. The following day at 10:00 a.m., Barbero will speak at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) on “The Construction of National Identities.” The same lecture will also be presented in Cape Town on April 9 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cape Town Club. The tour offers South African audiences a unique opportunity to engage with one of Italy’s most respected historians on themes of profound historical and cultural significance.
