Mexico City – On Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m., Mexico City will host the presentation of the work created by Camilla Alberti as part of the artistic residency Premio Natura Naturans/Naturata. The piece, titled Cranegrura, was produced during the artist’s two-month residency at Casa del Lago UNAM. Cranegrura takes shape as a hybrid presence, a sculptural creature open to wind and water, conceived to engage in dialogue with the lakeside landscape and the historic architecture of Casa del Lago. Its form evokes an animal in a state of tension – symbolically recalling the Mesoamerican jaguar – but without a head: the void opening toward the lake becomes a space of passage, permeability, and relationship. To create the sculpture, Alberti studied Mesoamerican construction techniques in collaboration with Francisco Fernández De Miguel of the Instituto de Fisiología Celular at UNAM, exploring the composition of ancient pigments and materials, including the use of nopal cactus as a structural and water-repellent component. This research enabled the artist to develop a structure that is both stable and malleable, capable of withstanding outdoor conditions while remaining consistent with her ecological vision. The award stems from a collaboration between the Italian Ministry of Culture – Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity, the Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este Institute – VILLÆ, the Italian Cultural Institute in Mexico City, and the Coordinación de Difusión Cultural of UNAM, through Casa del Lago UNAM. The two-month residency involved the creation of a project conceived specifically for the physical and symbolic context of the Bosque de Chapultepec. (9colonne)
