Praia – A delegation from Insula – Interdisciplinary Network for the Sustainability of Islands and Archipelagos, a research laboratory recently established within the University Center for International Cooperation at the University of Parma, recently carried out a mission to Cabo Verde as part of the Achieve-It project. The delegation included professor Martina Giuffrè and professors Michele Maccari and Osman Arrobbio. The visit aimed to strengthen academic partnerships with universities in Cabo Verde and to jointly develop new international cooperation initiatives. The activities were carried out in collaboration with the Universidade Lusófona de Cabo Verde, the University of Cabo Verde, and the Technical University of the Atlantic. The mission forms part of a long-standing collaboration between the University of Parma and the Cape Verdean archipelago, aimed at reinforcing the role of universities in addressing challenges related to sustainability and territorial development. In addition to joint research and project development, the cooperation includes international mobility programs for students and faculty, fostering the exchange of expertise and strengthening academic ties between the two countries. In 2025 this commitment also took shape through the WIDE – Widening International Didactics & Education project, which enabled ten female students from the University of Parma to spend time in Cabo Verde for training and research activities focused on sustainability, environmental education and international cooperation. The experience, developed in collaboration with the Universidade Lusófona de Cabo Verde, included fieldwork and the co-organization of an international conference on climate change and environmental education, opened by the President of Cabo Verde, José Maria Pereira Neves.
