Timișoara – “Macbeth,” directed by Stefano Tè, will inaugurate the 16th edition of the TESZT Euroregional Theatre Festival in Romania on May 23 and 24 at 7 p.m. at Uzina de Teatru – UTT (Calea Aradului 48). The production is staged by the “Csiky Gergely” Hungarian State Theatre of Timișoara with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Bucharest. Stefano Tè is the founder of the Italian company Teatro dei Venti, renowned for its visually powerful and highly physical street performances, presented at numerous international festivals. TESZT audiences previously encountered the company through the outdoor productions “Moby Dick” and “Pentesilea,” experiences that helped pave the way for this collaboration with the Hungarian Theatre. In “Macbeth,” Tè oversees the direction, choreography, and lighting design, creating – together with playwright Vittorio Continelli and costume designer Albert Alpár – a rigorous theatrical universe built around rhythm, presence, and physical expression. The production adopts a choral approach in which the actors remain constantly on stage, functioning as a collective organism. Characters and situations emerge from and dissolve back into this shared body in a continuous flow. People die, yet no one truly disappears: each figure is reabsorbed into the chorus, symbolizing a cycle of power that constantly renews itself. The performance is constructed around rhythm within an intentionally stripped-down scenic universe. The set design is minimal, almost nonexistent, while expression is driven by lighting, movement, and the actors’ physical presence, in an aesthetic dominated by darkness and visual tension. The festival will feature more than 30 indoor and outdoor performances between May 23 and 30. (9colonne)
