Oslo – The contemporary Italian poetry anthology "Legno azzurro – il profumo è altrove" (Icelandic title: "Blá tré – ilmurinn er annars staðar: ítölsk samtímaljóð") is now available in e-book format. Published by Forlagið, this volume marks the first collection of contemporary Italian poetry translated into Icelandic in many years. The book is the culmination of the second edition of the "Poetry in Residence – Iceland" project. This initiative is sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Cultural Institute in Oslo to promote the translation and distribution of contemporary Italian literature abroad. Award-winning poet Elisa Biagini curated and co-translated the anthology alongside Icelandic translator Sigurbjörg Þrastardóttir during her residency at the Gröndalshús House of Literature in Reykjavík. "Blue Wood" introduces Icelandic readers to ten of Italy's most prominent contemporary poetic voices: Milo De Angelis, Antonella Anedda, Valerio Magrelli, Stefano Dal Bianco, Giovanna Frene, Francesca Matteoni, Federico Italiano, Marco Simonelli, Carmen Gallo, and Biagini herself. Their poems explore themes of nature, memory, history, and personal experience, blending folklore with modern technology and contemporary life. The collection showcases a rich variety of expressive forms, ranging from free verse to traditional meter and rhyme. Spanning two editions across 2024 and 2025, the project aimed to revitalize the cultural and literary dialogue between Italy and Iceland. It was supported by Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature, with the collaboration of Milan UNESCO City of Literature and the Casa della Poesia in Milan, highlighting the value of international institutional partnerships and the role of artistic residencies as hubs for research and creative exchange. The anthology, featuring parallel texts in both Italian and Icelandic, can be accessed at the provided link.
