San Francisco – Summer with Monica Vitti, a film retrospective celebrating the legendary Italian actress, is currently underway in San Francisco. Organized by the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) in collaboration with Cinecittà and the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, the series runs through August 13. The program traces Vitti's remarkable career, from her unforgettable collaborations with Michelangelo Antonioni in the 1960s to her beloved performances in popular Italian comedies directed by filmmakers such as Mario Monicelli and Luciano Salce. The retrospective features a selection of recently restored films made possible through Cinecittà's 4K digital restoration program. Screenings include Antonioni's L'Avventura, La Notte, L'Eclisse, and Red Desert, as well as Help Me, My Love (Amore mio aiutami) by Alberto Sordi, Teresa the Thief (Teresa la ladra) by Carlo Di Palma, and I Know That You Know That I Know (Io so che tu sai che io so), also directed by Alberto Sordi.
