Tokyo – From September 9 to 17, Argentine-Portuguese designer and visual artist Maria Pacheco Cibils, who has long lived and worked between Rome and Argentina, will be among the 26 artists selected by OpenArtCode for the sixth edition of OpenArtCode Tokyo, presented as part of the 52nd AJAC Exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. For the occasion, Maria Pacheco Cibils will present two works from her exhibition series Il colore dei sentimenti (The Color of Feelings). As curator Francesca Barbi Marinetti writes: “For years, Argentine-Portuguese artist Pacheco Cibils has explored ways of moving beyond the traditional concept of form, using rich, vibrant layers of color in an effort to investigate the energies that govern matter within an increasingly holistic vision of art. Her inspiration largely comes from the spheres of ancestral and archetypal knowledge: the fundamental elements of life – earth, fire, air and water – in macrocosms and microcosms, as well as the fundamental dualities of existence, such as light and darkness or masculine and feminine. Maria Pacheco Cibils' works offer a cross-section of archetypal figures of love, each representing a concentrated expression of celebration, passion or disorientation. Connecting, recognizing oneself and reaching out again is the subjective tribute each person is called upon to make, completing a discourse that is simultaneously intimate and universal, transcending and always destined to transcend every historical trend.” AJAC – All Nations & Japan Artists' Cooperation was founded in 1975 by contemporary artists committed to promoting artistic exchange across different nationalities, cultures, ethnicities and genders. The association supports modern, independent and open forms of artistic expression. OpenArtCode brings together internationally established artists whose work spans a broad range of media, techniques and creative approaches. United by a shared commitment to promoting artistic dialogue across national borders, its members have exhibited together at prestigious international venues including the Grand Palais in Paris, the Rainier III Auditorium in Monaco, the OXO Gallery on London's South Bank, Pudong Library and CEIBS in Shanghai, Palazzo Cavalli Franchetti in Venice, the Gare Maritime in Cannes and the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence. More recently, OpenArtCode presented an exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland. Through its collaboration with AJAC, OpenArtCode returns to the prestigious Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. The museum is located inside Ueno Park, one of Tokyo's main cultural districts, which is also home to institutions including the Tokyo National Museum, the National Museum of Nature and Science and the National Museum of Western Art. The first edition of OpenArtCode Tokyo was held in 2016, when the group's artists were invited to participate in the AJAC Exhibition by the association's then-president, Mr. Fukaya. The invitation was made possible through the involvement of Japanese OpenArtCode artist Kensuke Shimizu, who continues to coordinate AJAC's relations with international artists. The 2026 edition will mark the sixth OpenArtCode Tokyo exhibition, continuing the longstanding cultural and artistic exchange between OpenArtCode, AJAC and Japan. (9colonne)
