Edinburgh – Hospitalfield Trust, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Edinburgh, will host a special film screening at the Scottish Parliament on Thursday, September 10, at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the 34th edition of the International Carlo Scarpa Prize for Gardens. Awarded by an international committee promoted by the Benetton Foundation for Landscape Research in Treviso, the prize includes a 60-minute documentary film and the publication of a major book dedicated to Hospitalfield. Among those attending will be Patrizia Boschiero and Luigi Latini, curators of the book and of the Carlo Scarpa Prize activities, as well as filmmaker Davide Gambino. Each year, the scientific committee selects a place with unique characteristics that prompts fundamental reflections on the care and stewardship of the landscape. The prize aims to promote and spread a culture of “landscape governance” and “care of places”, providing a crucial tool for understanding the intellectual and practical skills required to manage, safeguard and communicate our constantly evolving natural and historical heritage. Located in Arbroath, Hospitalfield Arts is one of Scotland’s most significant Arts and Crafts heritage projects. It was created by the visionary artist, philanthropist, teacher and polymath Patrick Allan Fraser, who established Hospitalfield as a retreat for artists and a place for creative learning.
