New York - Renzo Arbore, Federico Faggin, Marco Mazzieri, Francisco Cervelli, and Vinnie Pasquantino are the recipients of the Premio Italia nel Mondo (Italy in the World Award), presented on Thursday, September 10, at the United Nations in New York under the patronage of the Italian Senate and Ministry of Tourism. Now in its twentieth edition, the recognition celebrates individuals who have elevated Italy's culture and image globally through their talent, work, and dedication.
"I am truly delighted to receive the Premio Italia nel Mondo at the UN. It is an extremely important recognition, received by eminent personalities such as Luciano Pavarotti, to name just one. For me, it feels almost like a lifetime achievement award," stated Renzo Arbore, the acclaimed artist, author, and host who revolutionized radio and television broadcasting while championing traditional Italian music worldwide.
"I am deeply grateful and enthusiastic about receiving this immense recognition," remarked Federico Faggin, inventor, pioneer of modern microprocessor technology, and co-inventor of the first touchpad and touchscreen, whose work fundamentally shaped modern technology.
A prominent spotlight was also shone on baseball and softball, with awards presented to Marco Mazzieri, president of the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation (FIBS); Francisco Cervelli, manager of the Italian national baseball team; and Vinnie Pasquantino, captain of the national team. "This award represents the culmination of a journey that began many years ago. But it is also a tribute to all the athletes, executives, and individuals who volunteer their time to grow this movement," Mazzieri noted.
The ceremony also served as the venue to unveil a major cultural project dedicated to master sculptor Bruno Liberatore: an upcoming exhibition of his large-scale bronze works at the United Nations. This initiative brings a powerful testament of contemporary Italian art into an international institution, further promoting its value on the global stage.
