Mexico City - Health and pharmaceuticals are emerging as key sectors under the renewed framework of relations between Mexico and the European Union, offering fresh avenues for Italian investment, research, and innovation. These opportunities took center stage at the working roundtable "Mexico-Italy: Cooperation in Health and Health Regulation," organized on September 2 by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico alongside the Mexican Senate’s Health Commission. Opening the event, Chamber President Lorenzo Vianello emphasized the strategic economic ties reinforced by the EU-Mexico Global Modernized Agreement signed last May. Bilateral trade between Italy and Mexico surpassed $11 billion in 2025, with pharmaceuticals serving as a top Italian export category. Discussions among institutional and private leaders highlighted potentials in technology transfer, regulatory cooperation, and streamlined procedures alongside COFEPRIS, Mexico’s health regulatory authority. Dialogue will continue at the upcoming EU-Mexico Health Dialogue on October 14 and the Chamber's Health Committee meeting in November.
