Cross-border festival “Poklon viziji” brings Luigi Di Gianni’s short films to Ljubljana in November

Ljubljana – As in previous years, the cross-border film festival Poklon viziji – Omaggio a una visione (Tribute to a Vision) will stop at the Slovenian Cinematheque (Slovenska kinoteka) in Ljubljana. On 5 November, it will present CinemaEye, a programme exploring the dialogue between Slovenian and Italian film heritage, curated by Mila Lazić and Žiga Brdnik. This year, the collaboration is expanding to include the Italian Cultural Institute in Slovenia, which will present short films by Italian director Luigi Di Gianni alongside works by Milka and Metod Badjura, pioneers of Slovenian cinema. The event will be particularly noteworthy for its use of original 35 mm film prints. Di Gianni’s works come from the Cineteca di Bologna, while the Badjuras’ films have been sourced from the Slovenian Film Archive, part of the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia. The programme offers an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between cinema, history and memory. What remains in an image as time fades away? And how can an archive become a space for seeing familiar material in a new light? (9colonne)
