Jan. 4 – It’s time for new international commitments for the Italian Air Force. 2014 marked, in fact, the conclusion of the AMX fighters mission in Afghanistan, who returned to Italy after five years of activities in support of the international NATO ISAF coalition; after over 10,000 of flight hours and 7500 target acquisition operations with the Tornados of the 6 ° Ghedi Stormo. Missions also saw the involvement of the C-27 electronic warfare Jedi component for trainers of the Shindand air base and Predator unmanned aircrafts of the 32° Amendola Stormo. These two also return after more than 14.000 hours of patrols and surveillance on the Afghan territory in support of the Italian contingent, government organizations and local population.
PREDATORS IN 2015
he Predators are already back on the field for a new mission in the fight against international terrorism. The Italian UAV structures have been working both in the Horn of Africa, in Djibouti, since last August to combat international piracy. They are also in the Middle East, alongside four Tornado fighters of the 6 ° Stormo and the KC767 of the 14 ° Stormo, which have been deployed since last November in Kuwait for support, surveillance and reconnaissance duties as part of the international coalition to counter the ISIS terrorist threat.
