Apr. 28 - A new agreement for a 1800 MW hydroelectric project sees the Papua New Guinea government and the Italian company Salini-Impregilo work together for a $2 billion project in infrastructure. The agreement, which will include the construction of the dam in the province of Simbu Karamui, has been identified as a priority in infrastructure development in the country. In Papua New Guinea, a country with a tenth of the Italian population and more surface, infrastructure is yet to be developed. The agreement with Salini-Impregilo is part in the government’s plan to build roads, highways, airports, ports, communication systems and power generation. All works that, among other things, want to satisfy a growing demand for tourism and natural resource exports.
SALINI'S OTHER PROJECTS IN OCEANIA
Salini-Impregilo, present in over 50 countries around the world, in Oceania is working on the North West Rail Link project for the construction of a new subway line in Sydney, the largest public transport infrastructure project currently underway in Australia and the largest in Sydney since the building of the Harbour Bridge, which took place almost 100 years ago. Thanks to the agreement signed in Papua New Guinea, Salini-Impregilo adds another country to its international field, in which it is world leader in water infrastructure, with over 230 dams built. Energy demand is very high in Papua New Guinea, especially after the government decided to stimulate economic growth by improving the generation, transmission, distribution and retail of electricity throughout the country.
