University of Bologna ranks top 20 in Europe for academic reputation

London – The University of Bologna ranks 17th in Europe for academic reputation according to the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings, Europe.
The “Academic Reputation” indicator, which accounts for 30% of the overall score, is the most influential metric in the ranking and is based on the opinions of international academic experts. Overall, the Alma Mater places 59th at the European level and second nationally, with a total score higher than 94% of the universities included in the ranking, an improvement compared to last year.
The results are particularly significant given the substantial increase in the number of institutions assessed, which rose from 685 in 2025 to 958 in 2026 (with Italian universities increasing from 51 to 64).
In addition to academic reputation, the University of Bologna performs strongly in international mobility (27th in Europe), research internationalisation (45th) and employer reputation (52nd).
These achievements are reflected at the national level as well, where the University ranks second in Italy for academic reputation, employer reputation and research internationalisation, and third for sustainability and graduate employability.
