Prague – “Giorgio de Chirico – Painting Is the Magical Art” is the title of the exhibition curated by Lorenzo Canova, Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Molise and member of the Scientific Council of the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation. The exhibition will be inaugurated in Prague at the Italian Cultural Institute on March 3 at 6:30 p.m. The exhibition is promoted by the Aledya Foundation and organized together with the Italian Cultural Institute of Prague, in collaboration with Casa d’Arte San Lorenzo of San Miniato (Pisa), and under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Prague. The exhibition itinerary, open to visitors until April 26, will be divided into three sections and will feature over 60 works from major Italian and European private collections. Inside the Baroque Chapel, works exploring a long and significant period of the master’s career will be presented, ranging from the 1930s to the early 1970s, including metaphysical architectures, views of Venice, and the celebrated Piazze d’Italia. In the Chapter Hall, an important selection of works dedicated to de Chirico’s so-called “Baroque” phase will be on display, featuring paintings of horses and horsemen, as well as still lifes, which the artist liked to define as “silent lives.” The final section, located in the Foyer, will illustrate the artist’s commitment to graphic art, a field he greatly valued. Drawings, sketches, lithographs, and engravings from the archive of the great printer Alberto Caprini will be exhibited; Caprini maintained a long relationship of esteem and collaboration with the master. References to de Chirico’s previous presences in Prague, his friendship with the great Czech painter Jan Zrzavý, and a tribute to the master by Mario Schifano – one of the leading figures of Italian and international art in the second half of the twentieth century – will also be included.
