Italy–Turkey: Urso in Ankara to strengthen partnership on industry, space, and investment

Ankara – Italy’s Minister for Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, will be in Ankara starting today, March 23, for a two-day visit during which he will meet his counterpart, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır. Urso will also take part in the ministerial session of the “Science, Technology, Innovation, Industry, Investments” Committee. At the conclusion of the meeting, a joint declaration is expected to be signed, outlining new lines of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in industry, innovation, and mutual investments. During the mission, Urso will also meet with the Italian business community in Turkey to discuss investment prospects and opportunities for industrial collaboration. The discussions will also focus on the geopolitical landscape, with particular attention to the Iranian crisis and its economic and energy implications—an issue that will also be addressed in the minister’s upcoming international missions, starting with the United States next week and, as soon as possible, the Gulf countries. The President of the Italian Space Agency, Teodoro Valente, will accompany Minister Urso, underscoring the importance of the space partnership between the two countries, already initiated through an agreement between ASI and Turkey’s space agency, TUA. The mission to Turkey – Urso’s second institutional visit to the country in just over a year – forms part of a broader effort to strengthen the industrial partnership between Italy and Turkey, launched during the bilateral meeting in Istanbul in February 2025 and further developed in subsequent months, including at the intergovernmental summit in Rome between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Erdoğan.
