Buenos Aires – The Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires presents Frate Sole (Italy, 1918), the historic silent film directed by Ugo Falena and Mario Corsi, dedicated to the life of Saint Francis of Assisi, accompanied by live music performed by pianist and composer Mario Mariani. The screening will take place on Friday, May 22 at 6 p.m. at the Asociación Amigos del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis. Produced in 1918, Frate Sole is considered a pioneering work in the relationship between image and music in cinema. The film reconstructs, through a strong visual and symbolic approach, the figure of Saint Francis and the medieval world surrounding him. In keeping with silent film tradition, the screening will be accompanied live by Mario Mariani, who has developed a musical approach that goes beyond simple illustration of the images, instead creating a true parallel concert to the cinematic narrative, using the piano as an authentic orchestra. The project has been presented at numerous festivals and cultural institutions across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. (9colonne)
