Edinburgh – A new exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute in Edinburgh explores the rich history and enduring appeal of Italian cycling through a selection of iconic bicycles that have helped shape the sport. Titled Italian Icons, the free exhibition will remain open until July 16 and features 12 significant bicycles that illustrate the evolution of cycling culture and technology in Italy. Among the highlights are six historic models from the collection of the Madonna del Ghisallo Cycling Museum in Magreglio, near Lake Como, a site widely regarded as one of the spiritual homes of the sport. The exhibition was inaugurated with a group cycling ride to the Institute, underscoring the event’s connection to cycling culture. An additional six bicycles have been loaned by Italian companies whose innovations have left a lasting mark on the history of the sport. Featured exhibits include an early twentieth-century Bianchi racing bicycle equipped with a spoon brake, as well as a Legnano bicycle ridden by cycling legend Gino Bartali during the 1938 Tour de France. Organized in collaboration with the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling, the exhibition presents the bicycle as a symbol of ingenuity, elegance and passion—qualities that have long been associated with Italian culture and design.
