Pretoria – The Italian Cultural Institute of Pretoria has announced Italian Cinema Day, an event dedicated entirely to contemporary Italian film. The showcase will take place on September 13 at the Bioscope Independent Cinema in Johannesburg, one of the city's premier venues for independent cinema.
The event is part of Fare Cinema, an initiative by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation aimed at promoting high-quality Italian filmmaking abroad. The project highlights not only directors and actors, but the entire creative workforce behind the scenes—from screenwriters and costume designers to editors and set decorators.
The schedule features three film screenings:
• Tre Ciotole (2025, Dir. Isabel Coixet)
• 5 Secondi (2025, Dir. Paolo Virzì)
• Il Maestro (2025, Dir. Andrea Di Stefano)
Through this initiative, the Italian Cultural Institute and the Embassy of Italy in Pretoria reaffirm their commitment to promoting modern Italian culture internationally and fostering meaningful cultural exchanges between Italy and South Africa.
