Tokyo - On September 3rd, the Italian Cultural Institute of Tokyo is organizing the first stop of the show "Turandot from the Stars" ("Turandot delle Stelle") in its headquarters' Auditorium. It is an immersive video mapping and live music performance celebrating the centenary of the first performance of Giacomo Puccini's opera "Turandot," which took place at La Scala Theatre on April 25, 1926. Conceived and directed by the artist duo Davide Giannoni and Francesca Pasquinucci (Imaginarium Creative Studio), the exhibition blends the opera with original live music, hand-drawn illustrations, and projections that transform the space into a moving cosmos. The narrative thread imagines a young Puccini traveling the world in search of the perfect sounds for his opera: a poetic pretext that merges the Italian score with the ensembles and musical traditions of each place he crosses, involving local musicians. The show is indeed designed as an international format that will make stops not only in Asia but also in the United States and Italy, taking Italian opera out of the theater and to a new audience through the contemporary language of light and imagery. For this Japanese stop, Giannoni and Pasquinucci will collaborate with the artistic production company Komainu Kikaku, which will accompany the show with two traditional instruments: the koto and the shakuhachi.
