Italian Ferragosto celebrated with tradition, music, culture and food

Santo Domingo – Once again this year, Santo Domingo hosted its much-anticipated Italian Ferragosto celebration, an event dedicated to the culture, music and traditions of Italy against the backdrop of the Dominican capital's vibrant Caribbean setting. Held on August 15 in the heart of the city's colonial district, the event brought together hundreds of Italians living in the country, friends and Italy enthusiasts for a day centered on celebration, conviviality and Italian culture. This year's event was held under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Santo Domingo. During the opening ceremony, Ambassador Sergio Maffettone highlighted the importance of initiatives of this kind in strengthening and deepening cultural and commercial ties between the two countries. Each year, the event also features a guest artist from Italy. This year, alongside Italian artists living in the Dominican Republic, Kama Dl, from Milan, entertained the crowd with remixed versions of classic Italian hits, thanks to a collaboration with NEOS. A special role was once again played by the Emilia-Romagna Association, which presented its traditional piadina stand, showcasing the region's culinary heritage. The flatbread was prepared with care and pride by the association's vice president, Savio Vasini, and member Nino Lancella. “Our presence at Ferragosto Italiano in Santo Domingo was not just an opportunity to share our culinary heritage,” said the vice president of the Emilia-Romagna Association. “It was also a way to keep our cultural roots alive and offer everyone, Italians and non-Italians alike, an authentic taste of our homeland. We thank the Consulta degli Emiliano-Romagnoli nel mondo for supporting our participation once again this year”. The day featured live music, entertainment for adults and children, folklore performances and opportunities for socializing, creating an atmosphere that blended Italian traditions with the energy of the Caribbean.
